Amazon issues a fix to temper Alexa's creepy, unprompted laugh

Amazon is telling Echo users not to worry after some people are reporting that Alexa has been randomly laughing.

As you might expect, Amazon is working on a fix for this odd technical issue, which has been viewed by the general public as everything from merely unusual - and maybe a bit amusing - to "creepy", disturbing, and a sign that the robots will eventually come for us all.

Musk, replying to a news report about the impending fix, said, "Every time Alexa laughs, an angel dies, so thank goodness...."

A spokesperson for Amazon Echo said that they will likely update the device so that it responds to a more distinguishable command ("Alexa, can you laugh?") instead of responding to, "Alexa, laugh", or more simply, "Laugh".

If your Alexa had this issue we would love to hear from you, please get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or email. The online retailer uses it with its own Amazon Echo product line, and it's included with smart speakers from several different device makers.

An Amazon spokesman told Metro.co.uk, 'In rare circumstances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase "Alexa, laugh".

Amazon will change the command for laughter to "Alexa, can you laugh?" and disable the shorter command. "Please try a little later"; "I'm not sure what went wrong" and "Sorry, your Echo lost its connection".

One Twitter user said, "So Alexa made a decision to laugh randomly while I was in the kitchen".

Thankfully, with Amazon working on a fix for her Britney moment, Alexa is finishing the week on a strong musical note. Some of the suggestions to remove this defect include removing the phrase "Alexa laugh" and maybe replacing it with a question, "Alexa, can you laugh?".

Just read on Twitter that Alexa is freaking people out with a random "witch-like-laugh"!
