The heaviest precipitation is expected through Wednesday afternoon and into the evening, according to NBC Storm Team 4.

The snow snapped tree limbs and downed power lines across much of central NY, causing travel emergencies and travel bans in Oneida and Madison counties. This is when this zone should pick up most of its snow, which will be heavy and wet.

Thereafter, communities will need Wednesday night and Thursday morning to dig out. Pennsylvania and NY banned big rigs from some major highways.

Amtrak canceled some Acela Express, Northeast Regional, Keystone Service and Empire Service trains in the region, and Metro-North Railroad planned to run fewer trains during the morning and evening rushes.

Most of the area will see 12 to 18 inches of snow.

Some heavier snows may also extend west into parts of Berks and Schuylkill counties and eastern sections of Lancaster and Lebanon counties, where up to 6 inches of snow is forecast.
