AUBURN BASKETBALL: Tigers to face Alabama again

AUBURN BASKETBALL: Tigers to face Alabama again

Texas A&M, No. 8 in the Big 12, and Alabama, No. 9, went head-to-head in the second round of the SEC Tournament Thursday. The No. 8 seed Aggies led by as many as seven points early in the first half, but Alabama surged ahead in to take a 35-28 halftime lead - only to need Sexton's last-second shot to hold on for the win.

Sexton had 27 points against the Aggies, including the game-winner, and is averaging a team-high 18.3 points per game for the season.

The Crimson Tide would like nothing better than to knock their arch rival out of the SEC Tournament and wrap up an NCAA bid in one sitting.

Sexton is the go-to option for Avery Johnson's Alabama squad. Collin Sexton responded to a T.J. Starks three pointer with four seconds left by hitting an underhand floater as time expired. It was looking more like the Tide's 22-point win over Texas A&M in January than the two-point loss they suffered at A&M to end the regular season.

The Tide started the game strong and it seemed as if they would finish strong as well. "Fortunately, I know we'll be fired up for that game. We just got to play together, stay together".

Up next, the Crimson Tide will face No. 1-seed Auburn on Friday in the quarterfinal round at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo. Despite the Aggies outrebounding the Tide, 44-33, and owning the advantage in second chance points, 19-4, the Crimson Tide's edge in points in the paint, 36-32, and three-straight field goals down the stretch were enough to seize the win.

Starks led the way for the Aggies with 23 points.

If Johnson's squad comes out with the same type of focus and energy that they had for the majority of this game, they should be able to give Auburn all it can handle. We've just got to not back down and just be aggressive too. He also hosts a weekly college basketball show on WNSR 560AM/95.9 FM in Nashville.
