Ex-Playboy Model Who Claims Affair With Trump Sues To Break Silence

Another woman who said she had an affair with President Donald Trump is joining Stormy Daniels in trying to get out of an agreement that forced her silence.

McDougal is asking the court to declare the agreement null and void, saying that she was tricked into signing it; that it was meant to illegally influence the 2016 election; and that it violates public policy against using threats of legal action to get someone to stay silent on issues of public concern. McDougal says the company, which owns the National Enquirer, conspired with Trump's personal "fixer" Michael D. Cohen and her own lawyer to mislead her on the deal.

In court documents obtained by The New York Times, McDougal's lawyers asserted that American Media Inc., a company that operates The National Enquirer and Men's Fitness and is owned by Trump's personal friend David Pecker, worked with Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, and McDougal's own lawyer, Keith Davidson, to keep McDougal from speaking about her relationship with Trump one he made a decision to run for President. "We intend to invalidate the so-called contract that American Media Inc. imposed on Karen so she can move forward with the private life she deserves". McDougal is asking the court to nullify the deal with AMI, but on Tuesday afternoon, AMI issued a statement that said McDougal has been free to talk about her relationship with Trump since 2016.

AMI has a reputation for buying rights to and then burying stories that might damage allies of the company's chief executive, David J. Pecker.

The model and actress enjoyed "relative privacy" in the years following her relationship with President Trump, which came to an end in 2007, according to court documents.

American Media publishes The National Enquirer. Stephanie Clifford, famously known as Stormy Daniels, has also alleged an affair with Trump. To further complicate matters, McDougal is now the second woman to file a lawsuit to exit her legal agreement regarding her relationship with the president.

She also accuses Davidson, her former lawyer, of having worked for Trump to "catch and kill" unfavorable stories. And on the subject of Daniels, the Wall Street Journal has obtained results on a polygraph test she took over various claims. When Mr. Trump became the presumptive nominee in 2016, McDougal's name surfaced online, leading her to hire Davidson as her attorney.

In all, they said, the contract would obligate American Media to run more than 100 columns or articles and at least two covers featuring her. (AMI), the entity she had the agreement with. "Ms. McDougal received $150,000 (nearly half of which went to the lawyer, who she did not realize was colluding with the other side) and a false promise to jumpstart her career as a health and fitness model".
