President Trump privately stated that the U.S. military should fund border wall

Trump has privately been making the case that the Pentagon should use some of the $700 billion it received as part of last week's spending bill to fund his vanity project, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Trump raised the idea with House Speaker Paul Ryan at a meeting last week, according to a person familiar with the discussion who spoke on condition of anonymity.

In the same tweet, he talked about how building the border wall is a matter of National Defense, "Build WALL through M!" he exclaimed.

Trump has also suggested to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis that the Pentagon pay for the wall rather than the Homeland Security Department.

Of the untold number of stupid things that have come out of Donald Trump's mouth, making a strong case for the stupidest was his claim, as he announced his candidacy for president, that he would build a wall on the southern border of the country and make the "criminals" and "rapists" in Mexico pay for it.

The President is now tasked with the chore of finding other outlets to fund the wall and fulfill his campaign promise. In another meeting, Trump told his advisers that that the military could obviously afford paying for the wall because the latest budget included so much money for the Pentagon.

"Last year, I introduced an amendment that would have prevented Trump from irresponsibly siphoning our defense funds to pay for a useless wall that will do nothing to keep our nation safe".

USA approves $1 billion in weapons sales to Saudi Arabia
On Thursday, he held talks on regional security and military ties with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis at the Pentagon. And we believe that Saudi Arabia is part of the solution.

In last week's budget, US$1.6 billion (NZ$2.2 billion) of United States taxpayer money was included, which Trump said was a down payment on the wall.

Trump initially threatened to veto the bill, posting a number of tweets citing the lack of funding for the wall and no mention of DACA recipients. According to two advisers, the "M" refers to the military. "You could always increase them and take the revenue for that for resources", the same official said, who also described these options as Trump's "musings".

However, if the president is indeed considering using the military budget for the border wall, it might not be an easy task.

"First Mexico was supposed to pay for it, then USA taxpayers, and now our men and women in uniform?"

During a White House press briefing on Tuesday, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to comment about the money rumored to be coming from the military for the border wall.

The urgency to strike a deal reflected the growing sense that the spending bill represented the last chance for the Trump administration to secure substantial wall funding, at least in his first term.
