School violence remembered as thousands of shoes placed before US Congress

Seven thousand pairs of children's shoes were laid out on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday morning (March 13), an installation created by a global advocacy organization to represent what it said was a single pair for every child killed by gunfire since the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012, according to news reports.

Students across the country plan to walk out of their classrooms for 17 minutes to commemorate the 17 students and staff members who were killed in the February 14 massacre.

The demonstration was genuine and took place on 13 March 2018.

Numerous proposals favored by gun control advocates, including a ban on assault-style weapons and the closing of loopholes on requiring background checks before gun purchases, are fiercely opposed by the National Rifle Association and its supporters. Each pair represents a child who has been killed by gun violence in the US since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Prominent celebrities, including Bette Midler and Chelsea Handler, helped publicize the drive via social media.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports almost 13 hundred U.S. Children under the age of 17 are killed by guns every year. Next to it was a photo of Allison Parker, the 24-year-old reporter, who was shot and killed on live TV in 2015. "Culture is changing in America right now".
