Antoine Griezmann salvages point in Madrid derbi at Bernabeu

Cristiano Ronaldo scored early into the second half but Antoine Griezmann equalised four minutes later as Real and Atleti share the spoils in a contentious Madrid derby.

Atletico Madrid is competing in the UEFA Europa League, where they beat Sporting CP 2-0 on Thursday at Wand Metropolitano Stadium in the first leg of the competition's quarter-final.

Zinedine Zidane's men now trail Atletico by four points with just seven La Liga games to play. However, their lead lasted less than five minutes as Griezmann capitalised on some poor defending to equalise it at 1-1.

Moments later, Los Blancos had a huge penalty shout when Toni Kroos went down inside the box under a challenge from Juanfran, but the referee waved away the home side's appeals.

After a period disrupted by niggling fouls and loose touches, Real finished well before the break as Marcelo's curving shot rattled the crossbar and Dani Carvajal's fired follow-up again met Oblak.

A win of any sort for Pep Guardiola's men this evening would guarantee them the Premier League title. I think Juergen is a master at buying players he really needs for the way they want to play.

Consequently, Nifty closed flat at 10,332, while the Sensex settled with a slight gain of 30 points, or 0.09 per cent, at 33,627. Among the early gainers were Sobha whose shares went up by seven per cent while Magma Fincorp was down by six per cent.

But it's great to be in front of my crowd on a very memorable day. "I played more aggressively as the match went on". Italy's Fabio Fognini leveled the tie for the hosts after a dramatic four set win over France's Jeremy Chardy.

However, the lead lasted only four minutes as Griezmann struck back for the visitors, dispatching a finish confidently into the net from close range.

The Madrid derby returns as Santiago Bernabeu welcomes Diego Simeone's' side for one of the biggest games of the season. "The most important thing is not so much the rival but the chance to make sure we finish second in the table", he added. Griezmann slipped in Lucas and then continued his run so he was perfectly placed to slide home the rebound after Keylor Navas had parried.

Ronaldo was surprisingly replaced by Karim Benzema in the 63rd minute of the match, while Atletico boss Diego Simeone also made alterations during the same period as Gabi and Angel Correa were introduced, with Costa among those leaving the field. Bale nearly had it but put a hard header wide, while Sergio Ramos nodded past from a corner and saw his curling free-kick tipped over by Oblak.

France global Griezmann, 27, has now scored on each of his last three league visits to the Bernabeu and has 18 goals in his last 20 games in all competitions.
