Cynthia Nixon talks politics with Wendy Williams

Cynthia Nixon may just be the fierce embodiment of her Sex and the City character Miranda Hobbes, since she's now running for governor of NY and turning insults into campaign merchandise.

Nixon, best known for playing Miranda Hobbes on "Sex and the City", said she and her character are a lot alike. President Trump's astonishing election win also partly inspired her run.

It only makes sense that the NY governor hopeful stop by the Wendy Williams Show as it's New York AF.

"If we don't like the direction our government is going in, we have to step up and we have to get involved like never before", Nixon said. "It is tough", Nixon said. "I believe so much in NY and I believe that we're a real progressive bastion, and I have to say, the election of Donald Trump was a real wake-up call".

Cynthia Nixon gave her first televised interview as a political candidate this morning on Wendy Williams, and we're pleased to announce that Mother delivered the goods. She argued that incumbent Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo was once himself a celebrity candidate, as the son of former NY governor Mario Cuomo.

"We're at a real watershed moment now", noted Nixon, who participated in New York's March for Our Lives.

Nixon also addressed the tragic shooting and death of an unarmed African-American man, Stephon Clark.

Nixon also said that given the recent rash of shootings nationally, NY missed out on an opportunity in the recently enacted state budget to enact new gun control measures. I thought wow; that's not really what you love about the show.

Williams then asked a pointed question that perhaps underscored Nixon's decision to appear on the former shock jock's show in the first place: "How can black women help you become governor?"

Williams then asked Nixon how black women can help her be elected governor, to which the actress was quick to emphasize that the women are the "backbone of the Democratic Party", echoing what DNC head Tom Perez said after black women proved to be a key factor in the Alabama special election win of Democrat Doug Jones previous year.
