Day-long fast won't stop PM to inaugurate DefExpo on Thursday

The no-confidence motions- which were brought against the BJP-led central government by TDP, TRS, Left and Congress- could not be tabled in Lok Sabha due to the ruckus by opposition parties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to BJP leaders, MPs and MLAs from across the country, to hold a day-long fast on April 12 to "expose" the opposition parties who have been holding the "Parliament to ransom". "We're ready to talk about all the issues but they are not letting the houses function", union minister Ananth Kumar had said April 4. Last week, the BJP had blamed Congress for disruptions in both Houses of Parliament. The BJP holds opposition exclusively responsible for disruptions in Parliament because of which hardly any legislative business could be carried out, especially in the second half of the Budget Session.

In the budget session which concluded on Friday (April 6), the Lok Sabha spent just 1% of its allotted time on legislative business while the Rajya Sabha spent 6%.

Public money was wasted due to the disruptions, which caused a loss of over Rs 200 crores to the exchequer.
