Five-time world champion Bristow is widely revered as one of dart's all-time greats.

Bristow suffered a heart attack after attending a corporate event in Liverpool ahead of the Premier League fixture at the Echo Arena.

Deller and Bristow were old rivals but later worked together during their time at Sky Sports.

Brave Ricky added: "I did the best I could, but it wasn't enough, I'm devastated".

A heartbroken Wayne Mardle described Eric Bristow as "one of the superstars of sport" after the sad news of his death at the age of 60.

"He understood what crowds wanted to see - he was controversial, he was a maverick, he spoke his mind and upset a few people from time to time, but the man in the street warmed to him because he was very much one of theirs".

Now fans have been paying tribute by remembering presenter Ant McPartlin's impression of Eric from the show.

Having spent most of his 20s as the world's number one player, Bristow went on to endure a long battle with dartitis - the game's equivalent of golf's "yips" - which brought an inability to release the arrow. He was the first superstar of darts, an fantastic player but also a massive character.

His final world championship, in 2000, was Bristow's 23rd in a career during which he won over 70 professional titles.

The Professional Darts Corporation was shocked with the demise of the 60-year-old London-born legend and released a statement to pay tribute to him. "My thoughts are with his family at this sad time".

Dennis Priestley, who beat Bristow in the 1991 BDO World Championship final, tweeted: "Absolutely devestated (sic) to be told earlier that my good friend Eric Bristow has passed away". True legend in the game! "My thoughts go out to his wife and family". Get Me Out Of Here in 2012.

Reacting to his death, Taylor said: "Words can not express how sad and shocked I am to hear the bad news about Eric's passing".
