Google Announces A Standalone Tasks App

As America's largest global tech corporations fight more fiercely against one another in both enterprise and consumer markets, search giant Alphabet Inc.'s (GOOGL) Google is hoping a new revamp to its Gmail offering will help the service compete with Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Outlook.

The design is very modern, it might not seem very different compared to previous design but it's those little things that make up for a much more pleasant interface.

On April 11, Google let the cat out of the bag a bit early with regard to a big Gmail redesign.

There will also be an option that can revoke emails at any time. Basically, you'll be able to snooze it for a set amount of time and that removes it from your inbox until the snooze length expires.

The last new security measure is Built-in Information Rights Management, which is created to reduce the risk of email contents being shared with unauthorized persons. However, change is inevitable, at least in the form of "updates", especially when it comes to tech services like Gmail. Plus, there's the aforementioned confidential mode.

When Nudging is enabled, Gmail will proactively remind users about messages they still need to respond to, so they don't forget. To reply, users can simply choose one of the responses and hit send. First and foremost, smart reply - which rolled out on mobile a year ago - is finally coming to web.

High-priority notification is a feature for Gmail on mobile that only notifies users of important messages so interruptions are kept to a minimum. Because you probably get a heck of a lot more emails than you do texts, many of you probably turn off these push notifications. Google is finally rolling out the redesign for Gmail on the web today.

Today we announced major improvements to Gmail on the web to help people be more productive at work. Your inbox will also become less cluttered thanks to unsubscription suggestions for newsletters and offers you haven't opened any messages from in the last month.

"We're introducing an all-new Tasks on web, as well as new mobile apps to help you handle work on the go", Google's David Thacker writes.

This allows users to set an expiration date and the sender is in charge of how long it lives in another's inbox.

While the basic version of Google Tasks for Android appears to be pretty bare as of now, it nevertheless has the ability to be a nesting place for tasks and have them associated with emails, and assign due dates.

Similarly, the new Gmail can also nudge up emails it recognises needs attention within a time frame to the top of your inbox.
