Masters: Jack Nicklaus' grandson makes ace, Tom Watson wins Par 3 Contest

Gary Nicklaus Jr, 15, was caddying for his grandfather in the traditional Par 3 Tournament on the eve of the Masters.

Fleetwood may be a relieved man that Watson beat him by a stroke.

Jack Nicklaus' grandson, Gary Nicklaus, stole the show at the Masters Par 3 contest on Wednesday, hitting a hole-in-one on the final hole.

Since the Par 3 event event started in 1960, no victor of it has ever gone on to triumph in the main event four days later.

He was out in arguably the most competitive group of the day with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, who shot 23 and 25 respectively, but it was Watson who became the unlikely victor of the annual competition.

A five-time Open champion, Watson wound back the clock to shot a six under par 21.

"What I did compared to that doesn't matter, " Nicklaus said through tears.

"Since I'm not playing in the tournament, I thought, 'Let's go for it this year, '" he said afterward.

"I was just trying to hit it on the green, hit a good shot and set it up", said the son of Gary Nicklaus.

GT Nicklaus added: "This is probably my favourite week of the year and this is a special tournament, golf is a sport that I love and for that to happen is just unbelievable". "It was a very special day, one I'll never forget". However, the best highlight of the day from the group came from one of their caddies on the final hole of the day.
