Police responding to active shooter at YouTube offices near San Francisco

The police chief said the headquarters building was evacuated and detectives were making arrangements to talk to people who were witnesses to the incident.

Police and emergency services responded to the "active scene" after multiple emergency calls were received.

The shooting happened just after 12.30pm on Tuesday (local time).

YouTube employees tweeted about the situation, writing that the headquarters was under lockdown as police investigated the situation. He would not confirm whether the three had been shot, but said the surgeon treating them is "very experienced" with traumatic injuries, like gunshot wounds. Jackson tells KTVU, "The situation is being handled".

She said she was on a conference call and her boss, who heard shots, told her at least one person was shot on the patio where people eat. The department later confirmed on Twitter that it was responding to a shooting situation. "The public should stay away from the area". YouTube Chief Executive Susan Wojcicki declined to comment to reporters as she left the building.

A YouTube product manager, Todd Sherman, described on Twitter hearing people running, first thinking it was an natural disaster before he was told that a person had a gun. "I had my skateboard, I started skating towards the court yard area where I heard a commotion and I saw somebody screaming out, "come and get me, '" he said". Seemed serious and not like a drill.

Google, which owns the world's biggest online video website, posted on Twitter that the company is coordinating with authorities.

Law enforcement, which is being assisted by ATF, described the suspect as a white, adult female wearing a dark top and head scarf who officers say opened fire on Tuesday before turning the gun on herself.

According to Google, around 1,100 people work at YouTube's Cherry Avenue location, which acts as YouTube's corporate headquarters.
