Russian Federation warns of 'consequences' for US-led strike on Syria

President Donald Trump's desire to prevent future chemical attacks in Syria has fueled speculation that the USA leader may authorize an attack that is more far-reaching than the one he launched a year ago.

He said his ministry has evidence that proves Britain was directly involved in organizing what he called the "provocation".

Meanwhile, Russia's ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin said that U.S. threats to use force in Syria is in violation of worldwide law.

She added: "It's some of the worst piece of fake news we've yet seen from the Russian Federation propaganda machine".

A fact-finding team of inspectors from the worldwide chemical weapons watchdog was in Damascus and had been expected to head to the town of Douma on Saturday, scene of the suspected chemical weapons attack that killed more than 40 people. That had led to feverish speculation on Russian television, and from some Russian politicians, that a US strike on Syria could quickly devolve into a nuclear standoff as risky as the Cuban missile crisis.

Zakharova suggested that Western media bore some responsibility for the strikes, claiming the White House cited "multiple media sources" on the suspected chemical weapons attack in Douma.

It showed again how willing he is to change his mind, even when doing so would betray his core beliefs and political base. The president seemed to slow the timeline for any USA strike after earlier this week signaling an attack was imminent.

Meanwhile, Taliban militants have confirmed the fight and claiming they have captured the district headquarters of Khawja Omari district.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also claimed that following Syrian rebels' withdrawal from the eastern Ghouta suburbs of Damascus, stockpiles of chemical agents were allegedly found there. But it added that no Russian air defenses were deployed against the incoming fire, even though thousands of its troops are stationed across Syria in support of Russian ally Assad.

Speaking to reporters in Moscow, Lavrov reiterated a strong warning to the West against military action in Syria, saying any such "adventures" in Syria would increase flows of refugees into Europe.

Syria's military has repositioned some air assets to avoid fallout from possible missile strikes, USA officials told Reuters on Wednesday.

The group was the last in the erstwhile besieged Ghouta enclave to resist the exit proposed by Russian Federation but an alleged chemical attack by the regime on April 7 appeared to break their will. The Kremlin readout said that Putin warned against rushing to blame the Syrian government before conducting a "thorough and objective probe". "We warned that such actions would not be left without consequences".

No serious observer thinks Washington or Moscow want to fight each other over Bashar al-Assad's latest alleged use of banned chemical weapons on his country's civil war battlefield.

Haley spoke directly after Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia, who charged that the Saturday attack on Douma, the last rebel-held town in Syria, was faked by foreign intelligence services.

Macron said Thursday on French national television France has proof that the Syrian government launched chlorine gas attacks and has crossed a line that could prompt French airstrikes.
