Seahawks draft Shaquem Griffin, UCF fans react

Shaquem Griffin became the first one-handed player ever to be selected in the National Football League draft on Saturday, joining his twin brother Shaquill at the Seattle Seahawks.

I anxious I was being overly sentimental to think the Seahawks should choose the one-handed linebacker from Central Florida who just so happened to be the twin brother of Shaquill Griffin, the cornerback the Seahawks drafted in the third round a year ago.

Anyone who has followed the NFL Draft knows how much Shaquill Griffin wanted his brother to join him in Seattle this season.

He enjoyed an outstanding career at the University of Central Florida, where he appeared in 39 games with 26 starts, amassing 175 tackles, 18.5 sacks two interceptions and 11 passes defended.

"It was emotional for all the obvious reasons", Carroll said. "He is an explosive, talented guy and he backs it up".

"It's insane because that process is tough to see all those guys before you", said Griffin, who ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash and bench-pressed 225 pounds 20 times at the NFL Combine in February.

The 22-year-old's story blew up after he put on an astonishing combine workout, blazing to a 4.38 forty time and pushing a remarkable 20 reps on the bench press despite having to use a prosthetic just to participate in the event.

But NFL evaluators found weaknesses too.

The reigning MVP was the catalyst for a remarkable 31-7 run in the third quarter which saw the Thunder overcome their big deficit. The Thunder will need to go into Salt Lake City and win on a very home friendly court just to stay alive in the series.

She said he also stayed with her last fall, but she asked him to leave because she was suspicious he was using drugs in the house. The officer's vehicle was found abandoned Wednesday morning off a road in Norridgewock, state police said.

Griffin's athletic ability stunned onlookers at the NFL Combine trials in March.

The twin brothers will link up at Seattle.

Since the, he's been the talk of the league, and the outpouring of support from the entire NFL and wider sporting community after he was drafted was fantastic to see.

Griffin's college coach Scott Frost tweeted "About time", after the pick was made.

"I am a football player at the end of the day and people who feel sorry or have any pity on me, they are the ones that are going to have to get off or get back", Griffin said.

Historically, NFL talent evaluators tend to shy away from the different - the short quarterback, the slow wide receiver, or the undersized offensive lineman - afraid to take a chance in a results-driven business on a player who does not fit the mould.

Shaquem Griffin proved to the world Saturday that anything is possible with one hand.

Despite his birth defect, Shaquem loved playing American football from a young age, and said he was determinged to show that he was "not just a fell-good story" but a serious player in his own right.
