Sean Hannity Defends Real Estate Empire Aided By HUD Loans

Last Monday, a lawyer representing Donald Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, said that Hannity was one of Cohen's three clients.

The embattled host supposedly received support from HUD when he used shell companies to purchase discounted and foreclosed properties as a means of investment, which, of course, caused plenty of uproar among his detractors.

The group of companies, registered to an address in Kennesaw, Georgia, bought more than 870 pieces of property in seven states, including Vermont, according to the Guardian. Hannity was found to be owner of numerous shell companies listed in the report, a fact his attorney did not dispute in a statement to the newspaper.

As a pundit on Fox News, Sean Hannity decried the nation's high foreclosure rate under President Barack Obama.

Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for adult film actress Stormy Daniels who is now suing President Donald Trump and his lawyer Michael Cohen, said Sunday that Hannity's work with Cohen was likely "far more extensive" than the conservative media personality has let on.

Hannity has a portfolio that obtained funding from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, under the National Housing Act loan program, which was first guaranteed under President Obama's administration, a fact he did not mention when interviewing secretary Ben Carson previous year.

Hannity also railed against the state of public housing and made the false claim that home ownership was at a 51-year-low, the Guardian reported. "Michael knows real estate", he said a few hours after Cohen's Manhattan court appearance.

A Fox News representative referred to Hannity's comment on the matter. "I can say that every rigorous process and strict standard of improvement requirements were followed; all were met, fulfilled and inspected", he said.

The popular far-right Fox News host has never mentioned any of these financial dealings on-air, despite interviewing HUD Secretary Ben Carson, nor when he's covered stories about HUD.

Hannity's real estate attorney, Christopher Reeves, wrote to The Guardian that, "I doubt you would find it very surprising that most people prefer to keep their legal and personal financial issues private".

The Guardian released the findings of an investigation, based on thousands of pages of public record, into the Fox News host's real estate holdings, in a detailed article on Sunday. "Mr Hannity is no different".
