To beat porch thieves, Amazon will deliver packages to members' parked cars

Packages will be placed in cars parked in publicly accessible areas like a customer's home or workplace, and then secured. The company hopes this new delivery system will make receiving packages more convenient, since customers can be just about anywhere to receive their goods. Despite reminders, the possibility is always there that when the AMZN driver leaves with the package, the vehicle has left the designated area (something Amazon will know as it has access to the car's location via the connected service on delivery day only). "In-car delivery gives customers that same peace of mind and allows them to take the Amazon experience with them".

However, as there have been concerns about the home service having flaws, it's worth remembering that a vehicle is like a house you can drive to Mexico, so there's a trust element here.

Amazon has announced that millions of Prime members with Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and Volvo cars can now use Amazon Key to have their Amazon packages delivered inside their vehicle parked at home, work or near other locations in their address book-all at no extra cost to Amazon Prime members. They get notifications of their four-hour window, when their courier is on the way and when the package has been delivered.

This time with the cars, Amazon is partnering with General Motors and Volvo and using connected technologies already in place in modern vehicles. Birthday presents could be secretly delivered to the trunk of your auto instead of left at home for your kid to see.

The new program, launched on Tuesday, is an expansion of Amazon's Key service. At checkout, a new option appeared for "in-car delivery". "This intersection between transportation and commerce could very well be the next wave of innovation, and we intend to be at the forefront".
