Tom Brokaw Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations, Attacks Accuser

The Washington Post reported this week that Brokaw made unwanted advances on Linda Vester, a former NBC correspondent and former Fox News anchor, twice during the 1990s, including an atempt to forcibly kiss Vester, who was in her 20s at the time.

Brokaw is the most recent of many media personalities to be accused of sexual misconduct in recent months, including his former colleague Matt Lauer, who left the Today show and the network after several women came forward with allegations.

Brokaw alleged that Vester "was given a free hand to try to destroy all that I have achieved with my family, my NBC career, my writing and my citizenship". CBS News was unable to reach NBC for comment.

News said it's taking "very seriously" sexual harassment allegations against former anchor Tom Brokaw and will act on them "when the facts dictate".

Matt Lauer has spoken out for the first time in five months since he was sacked by NBC over allegations of sexual harassment. Mr. Lauer has apologized for his behavior but also denied he ever behaved in an aggressive or abusive fashion toward any women. Even after the incident, Brokaw said, Vester was the one that invited him to a drink in London, during which Vester alleges another incident took place. "I was shocked to feel the amount of force and his full strength on me".

"She has unleashed a torrent of unsubstantiated criticism and attacks on me more than twenty years after I opened the door for her and a new job at Fox News", Brokaw said in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by CNNMoney.

The letter was composed by Elizabeth Bowyer, co-head of brand and content strategy at Goldman Sachs, who then distributed it to some staffers at NBC, where Bowyer previously worked for Brokaw and NBC News, Variety reported. He also described helping Ms. Vester secure a job at Fox News by recommending her to the network's then-chairman, Roger E. Ailes.

Both Variety and The Washington Post interviewed Vester for stories that were published on Thursday. "I don't want to do that with you.'" The Post corroborated Vester's statements with her diary from the time, as well as with a fellow former NBC coworker of Vester's who she confided in that night.

Vester told the Post and Variety that Brokaw, in both London and NY, grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her in forcefully in an attempt to kiss her.

The We'll Meet Again host said she mentioned Lauer by name in her complaint: "I told management they had a problem and they needed to keep an eye on him and how he deals with women". "We know him to be a tremendous decency and integrity".
