Two new Star Trek movies are in the works

Star Trek has a deep and rich history outside of Captain Kirk and his Enterprise crew.

Paramount Pictures CEO Jim Gianopulos announced concurrent development of two new Star Trek movies at CinemaCon, partially clearing up months of rumor and conflicting information about the fate of the Star Trek movie series. This script has been in development now for a few years. Maybe it will be a Chris Hemsworth (Kirk's dad) tale that involves time travel and elimination of the Kelvin timeline. Paramount is developing another "Star Trek" film from J.J. Abrams and Quentin Tarantino, but sources say it is still being written and would come after the fourth movie.

Since the third of the rebooted "Star Trek" movies recouped nearly $350 million globally, Paramount's high-profile flops have included "Ben-Hur", "mother!" and Matt Damon vehicles "Suburbicon" and "Downsizing".

In a recent interview with ET Canada, Spock depicter Zachary Quinto shared that the studio is developing at least more than one "Star Trek" movie.

S.J. Clarkson, the woman who directed the pilot for Netflix's acclaimed Marvel-based series Jessica Jones, is in talks to helm the pic. Sources now say the film is being written and would not debut until after Star Trek 4.

"I don't think Quentin is going to direct it", the actor told the Happy Sad Confused podcast recently. So I don't know what is going to happen.

Yesterday, I had slight trouble believing either would happen, but now I'm not so sure about this Hemsworth one.

"I'm incredibly confident that we have the right team, culture, and attitude in place to take Paramount to new heights", he said. So I don't know.

A major intervention arrived, in the form of Quentin Tarantino, who pitched a Star Trek movie idea to J.J. Abrams.
