U.S. denies attack on Syrian military base

On Monday, Israel accused Syria of "crimes against humanity" over an alleged chemical attack on a rebel-held town, saying Assad's regime was responsible.

Israel has grown increasingly alarmed as Iran and its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, extend their military reach and influence in the region, including an expanded presence near Israel's northern border.

Three Iranian militia were killed on Sunday in an overnight airstrike by Israeli forces in Syria, Iranian media reported. In a statement, it said a fact-finding mission was gathering information from all available sources to establish whether chemical weapons were used.

"By striking (Syrian President Bashar Assad) and his Iranian allies just a day after Trump warned them of the price they would pay ..." The militants from Jaish al-Islam had been negotiating their exit with Russian representatives.

'The Israeli attack constitutes an indirect response to the success of the Syrian Arab Army in eliminating armed terrorist groups from the Damascus suburbs and other Syrian areas, ' a recently issued Foreign Ministry statement reads.

The Syrian government denied its forces had launched any chemical assault. Gen. Yuri Yevtushenko was quoted by Russian news agencies Sunday as saying Russia was prepared to send specialists to Douma to "confirm the fabricated nature" of the reports.

Fourteen people were killed, including Iranians.

According to Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is based in Britain, most of the 14 who were killed were either forces from Iran or proxies that were backed by Iran supporting the government of Syria. "We'll touch them. Our security in the present is crucial for our security in the future". The statement also slams the United States for its support for Israel's 'dangerous, aggressive approach.' The Syrian Arab Republic has again called upon the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in the maintenance of global peace and security, to condemn this blatant Israeli aggression and to take resolute and immediate action to prevent the recurrence of such attacks. A year ago, almost 100 people were killed in a strike on the northern town of Khan Sheikhoun that the United Nations has blamed on the Syrian air force.

A 2013 chemical attack in eastern Ghouta that killed hundreds of people was widely blamed on government forces.
