Florida woman escapes abusive boyfriend by slipping a note to vet's staff

A Florida woman has escaped her partner, who she claims was threatening her at gunpoint, by slipping a note to a vet.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal quotes the Volusia County Sheriff's Office as saying 39-year-old Jeremy Floyd was arrested at DeLand Animal Hospital.

Floyd has been charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, simple battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Floyd refused to let Reichle leave the home throughout the two days, until she hatched her escape plan Friday afternoon.

The woman allegedly convinced Floyd to take let her take her dog to DeLand Animal Hospital. He physically stopped her from leaving their home, deputies said. At one point, police said the couple had struggled over the gun, which went off twice and left two bullet holes in the wall. But when they arrived, she slipped a note to the staff and begged them to call police because she was in danger and her boyfriend was armed, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday.

The note worked, and officers from the DeLand Police Department came and arrested the man, identified as 39-year-old Jeremy Floyd. The case was then handed to Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

The rescue brought an end to 48 hellish hours for Reichle that began when Floyd beat her up Wednesday night.

It also said Floyd allegedly threatened to kill her with a loaded handgun that went off when she tried to take the weapon.
