France coach Deschamps explains World Cup rejection for Lacazette, Martial

Deschamps will rely on a strike force of Antoine Griezmann, who scored twice in the Europa League final, Chelsea's Olivier Giroud and Paris St Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

Karim Benzema (1st R) of France celebrates scoring his team's fourth goal with his teammates during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Group E match between Switzerland and France at Arena Fonte Nova on June 20, 2014 in Salvador, Brazil.

In-form attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet was ruled out after sustaining a muscle injury in Marseille's 3-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid in last week's Europa League final.

It wasn't all bad news for Premier League stars though, with Hugo Lloris, Benjamin Mendy, N'Golo Kante, Paul Pogba and Olivier Giroud all being handed a boarding card for the plane.

France's only loss in qualifying came at the Friends Arena in Solna, Sweden in June past year, as the Swedes scored a late goal to beat the French 2-1.

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris, Steve Mandanda, Alphonse Areola.

You can't count on the French making those kinds of errors too often, however - Les Bleus bounced back from the loss, earning 10 out of a possible 12 points in their last four games to secure qualification.

Germany announce 27-man squad; Gotze, Can, Mustafi dropped
Among others who missed out are Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, who is now unfit, and young Schalke midfielder Max Meyer.

Manchester United forward Martial, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, and Arsenal striker Lacazette had to be content with a place on the standby list, having failed to make it into the 23-man group announced by the French Football Federation on Thursday.

There is no such hope for Payet, however.

"Dimitri Payet was a serious candidate for a place in the squad".

"Steven has technical skills and an imposing height, he plays in the same fashion as N'golo Kante", Deschamps said.

Martial has found playing time hard to come by at Manchester United after reportedly falling out of favour with manager Jose Mourinho and has just 11 goals and seven assists in all competitions this season.

Both players were left on the stand-by lift for this summer's tournament in Russian Federation, despite the Arsenal forward scoring eight times in his last 10 appearances after returning from injury. However, this is also a major reason which has caused a selection headache for Deschamps - despite selecting a side who are more than capable of winning the World Cup. "He played the first half-hour of the Europa League final and his situation worsened".
