Google's Waymo Self-Driving Minivan Crashed Into A Sedan In Arizona

A self-driving vehicle from Alphabet's Waymo company was involved in a auto crash in Chandler, Arizona on Friday, resulting in minor injuries. In this case a driver was on board and was injured in the accident.

Chandler Police told PCMag that the crash occurred when the Honda sedan was traveling eastbound, but had to swerve to avoid striking another vehicle heading northbound. You can see Waymo's footage of the incident below. As the Honda swerved, it entered the westbound lanes of Chandler Boulevard and ended up hitting the Waymo minivan. The Waymo van was traveling at a slow speed in autonomous mode with a human backup driver in the driver's seat and was not the vehicle responsible for the crash, according to police.

The incident saw a auto veer across the lanes and into oncoming traffic.

Video from the Waymo minivan shows the Honda coming at it. Google began testing self-driving cars in 2009. Both the vehicles were towed from the venue if accident. It's unclear at this stage what caused the silver Honda to swerve across the road into the path of the Waymo minivan. First reports indicate the autonomous vehicle was not at fault in the crash - not the "violator vehicle", according to ABC 15 News.
