Haspel Now Has Clear Path To Become CIA Director

Underneath questioning Wednesday in entrance of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Haspel mentioned she wouldn't allow the CIA to restart the tough interrogation program it beforehand ran, including that she did not "imagine that torture works". Joe Manchin are two Democrats on the committee who are supporting Haspel, and that vote is not in doubt. Rand Paul of Kentucky is likely to vote against her and GOP Sen.

"The United States must send a message to the world that we hold ourselves to a higher standard than our enemies".

She had her testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee last week, which was widely seen as a positive performance.

Haspel has proven to be a controversial pick for the president, over her history at the CIA and the agency's use of harsh interrogation tactics.

Warner has not yet said whether he will support Haspel's nomination.

While Haspel is expected to easily clear the panel in a closed-door vote on Wednesday, her confirmation at the full Senate depends on winning support from key Democrats, largely those from conservative or centrist states, who are under enormous pressure from outside liberal and human rights groups to block her. Uh, Senator Warner? You do realize that Virginia is now a blue-leaning state, certainly not North Dakota or West Virginia or IN or whatever?

AT&T chief says hiring Cohen was 'a big mistake'
The Washington Post reported this week that Cohen received $600,000 to consult for AT&T about the merger, among other issues. So when he took office, there were concerns within AT&T and Time Warner that he or his aides would try to block the deal.

Major Galaxy Note 9 Design Changes Ruled Out
Earlier, it was reported that Samsung was nearly confirmed to launch the Galaxy Note 9 with an on-screen fingerprint sensor. The model headed to the US, Canada, Mexico, and China would be powered by Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Haspel defended the work of the Central Intelligence Agency at the time and said the interrogation program was deemed legal then.

In the letter, Haspel wrote that she would not "condemn" those who made the "hard calls" after the 9/11 terror attacks.

Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, the deputy majority leader and a member of the intelligence panel, defended the Bush-era program and Haspel's involvement. It was President Obama who decided that John Brennan, Jose Rodriguez, Gina Haspel and others involved in the torture program should not face prosecution.

"I think it ought to be made available to all senators if not the general public", King said of the Justice Department report.

As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Mr. Paul's opposition nearly triggered the panel to report Mr. Pompeo out of the committee unfavorably before the full Senate vote.
