IT’S ON: White House Says Trump-Kim Summit ‘EXPECTED’ for June 12

Clearly North Korea diplomacy and the prospects for reviving the canceled Trump-Kim summit remain front and center, as events over the weekend and Tuesday demonstrate.

U.S. officials have demanded North Korea unilaterally disarm before concessions are granted on economic sanctions or a pledge of non-aggression, while Pyongyang prefers a phased negotiations and concessions from the US.

"Since the President's May 24th letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the North Koreans have been engaging", Sanders said in the statement.

While the China stopover may be simply explained by the lack of a direct route between North Korea and the US, the destination of NY was a shift from an original plan to go to Washington, D.C.

"Vice Chairman Kim bought a ticket for a flight to NY to depart at 1 p.m. today", a source said.

Trump confirmed the general was on his way in a tweet and boasted that Washington would have a "great team" for the talks on resolving the old foes' nuclear standoff.

North Korea, in return, would demand the USA normalize its relations with it, ease sanctions against it and remove it from a list of state sponsors of terrorism, which could immediately help the North's economy. North Korean diplomats and officials are not allowed to travel more than a few miles outside New York City.

Ms. Glaser says she was "baffled" by Trump's "poker player" reference to Xi, and to the implication many took from it that the United States was blaming China for North Korea's hardening stance on nuclear negotiations.

South Korea want more talks with North Korea before summit
Any attendance by Mr Moon would be dependent on the progress of pre-summit talks between the United States and North Korean leaders, said the Blue House.

South Korean media speculated that Mr Pompeo could make a third trip to Pyongyang after Kim Yong Chol's U.S. trip.

The visit by Kim Yong-chol, a vice chairman of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party's Central Committee, raises expectations the June 12 meeting in Singapore between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will go ahead as initially agreed upon. Since then, he has suggested the summit could be back on, and Kim Yong Chol's trip to the US seems to imply that preparations for a meeting could be in the final stages.

Photos released by South Korea's presidential office showed Moon arriving at the North Korean side of the Panmunjom truce village on Saturday and shaking hands with Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, before sitting down with the North Korean leader for their summit.

A top aide to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Singapore on Monday night, Japanese public broadcaster NHK said yesterday. Details of those talks hadn't emerged yet.

Both Pyongyang and Washington are pressing ahead on plans for a meeting between the two leaders after Trump pulled out of the scheduled Jun 12 summit on Thursday, only to reconsider the decision the next day. But there are lingering doubts on whether Kim will ever fully relinquish his nuclear arsenal, which he may see as his only guarantee of survival in a region surrounded by enemies. -North Korea summit, the White House said on Monday. "Among other things they've been able to run the table in the South China Sea", he says, pointing to Beijing's military build-up in neighboring waters as the Trump administration has focused on the North Asian nuclear threat.

"During the South Korea-U.S. summit, President Trump said the U.S.is willing to clearly put an end to hostile relations (between the U.S. and North Korea) and help (the North) achieve economic prosperity if North Korea conducts denuclearization", he said.

But analysts say North Korea will be unwilling to cede its nuclear deterrent unless it is given security guarantees that the United States will not try to topple the regime.

Now, according to a statement from State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert on Sunday, a USA delegation "is in ongoing talks with North Korean officials at Panmunjom", too.
