North Korea suspends talks with South scheduled for Wednesday

National Security Advisor John Bolton said on May 13 that the USA government's permanent, verifiable and irreversible dismantling (PVID) means every nuclear weapon should be dismantled and transferred to Oak Ridge and uranium enrichment and plutonium reprocessing capabilities should be removed.

This picture from North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) taken and released on 1 January, 2018 shows North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un delivering a New Year's speech at an undisclosed location.

North Korea's Korean Central News Agency said ongoing drills between the South Korean and USA air forces are an "intentional military provocation" to undermine recent diplomatic talks, according to Yonhap News Agency in South Korea.

The meeting between the neighboring countries was scheduled for Wednesday and to be held on the south side of Panmunjom, according to the report.

The now-suspended meeting was meant to focus on plans to formally declare an end to the Korean War and pursue a "complete denuclearization", Reuters reported.

The move to suspend talks is also putting North Korea-US talks in jeopardy as North Korea is threatening to suspend the US summit as well.

Any sort of cap on North Korea's nuclear programme will be welcomed by countries such as India, which have for long warily watched the nation's proliferation linkages with Pakistan.

Pompeo said Sunday that the US was going into talks with "eyes wide open with respect to the fact that the North Koreans have not proved worthy of their promises".
