USA says it will separate families crossing border illegally

"If you cross the border unlawfully, then we will prosecute you -it's that simple".

The visit by Sessions and Thomas D. Homan, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was the latest in a series of appearances by Trump administration officials to tout a "zero-tolerance" stance against illegal immigration.

"People are not going to caravan or otherwise stampede our border".

The Trump administration will increase criminal prosecutions of parents entering the United States illegally and place their children in protective custody, stepping up efforts to tighten immigration enforcement, US officials said on Monday. "If you don't like that, then don't smuggle children over our border". However, the Homeland Security official told the LA Times that under the new rule, parents will face prosecution while their children are taken to a separate facility.

But by referring immigrants caught illegally crossing for criminal charges, the move means that if an adult comes across the border with children, they will be separated from those children as they await their criminal proceedings.

"It's obvious that we can not take everyone who wants to come here without also hurting the interests of the citizens we are sworn to serve and protect".
