Amid protests, Rajini’s Kaala screened in many parts of Karnataka

Pa Ranjith has directed this film.

Rajinikanth fans can now watch the megastar's latest film, Kaala, in Karnataka. The film's timing couldn't have been better with the superstar having recently made his official entry into politics in real-life.

"I have not been following Kaala release or its prospects, but I would imagine, the socio-political stand Rajini Sir has taken in the past one year people might have started looking at him differently from the demi-god that he used to be", he said.

The film will hit the theatres in Karnataka, where pro-Kannada groups have been agitating against it, in protest against the actor-turned-politician's remarks on the Cauvery river water dispute.

One fan told NDTV, "We are all fans of Rajinikanth and we love to watch his movies here in Bengaluru". As the film premieres worldwide, fans took to their Twitter handle to give their initial review for the film. Reportedly, Ranjith initially wanted to make a sequel to "Kabali", but changed his mind after speaking to the Tamil superstar, and ended up making "Kaala" instead.

Nabil Fekir transfer: Liverpool want Fekir but 'nothing is done', says agent
It's thought that Fekir is worth around £50 million, so Liverpool will have to splash the cash to seal the deal - something which they seem prepared to do.

Sources at Chennai theatres say the film has found pre-bookings only for two days, which is extremely unusual for a Rajinikanth film. And "Kaala" is no different. Nadar moved to Mumbai in 1956 and was a leader for a section of Tamils settled in the slums of Dharavi. Art director Ramalingam also recreated the maximum city's famous Dhobi Ghat, a UNESCO certified heritage, as part of the set.The film had over 2000 supporting artists on set, and more than 800 people worked on creating the sets. Here: Rajinikanth shooting a portion of the film at Marin Drive.

"Kaala has been unnecessarily embroiled in the Cauvery controversy. There is no question of seeking an apology but the actor should state that he will help resolve the Cauvery issue", Sa Ra Govindu, president of the Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce (KFCC) and pro-Kannada activist said.

Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy seemed to tacitly support the protest with his statement requesting distributors and exhibitors not to show the film.

Memes surrounding Rajinikanth and his dialogues have always been a rage.
