The unsafe fires have prompted some evacuations from southern California to Colorado.

A wildfire burning grass and brush in central Washington threatened several dozen homes and other infrastructure, while more than 250 firefighters raced to the hills overlooking Los Angeles to battle a blaze in thick brush surrounded by large homes.

The fire has been raging for almost two weeks, but not a single home has been lost and no injuries have been reported.

"Given the fire behavior that we've been seeing and the amount of fire on the landscape and the amount of structures in the area, that's a really good thing", Knight said.

The 416 Fire grew to 29,147 acres as of this morning.

Another 127 homes were ordered to evacuate, bringing the total to more than 2,100. A pre-evacuation notice is in effect for the community of Foxborough.

The fire has only been 15% contained since it was first reported on June 1.

And in southwestern Colorado, residents of about 180 homes were allowed back home because a fire there is no longer considered a threat to the homes. More than 900 people are fighting the blaze, officials said.

The closure started Tuesday for the over 2,800 square miles (7,252 square kilometers) forest. The cause of the fire is unknown and is 0 percent contained.

Fire officials on Thursday monitored storm activity to see how it would affect planned back-burns.

The Burro Fire, burning 10 miles west of the 416 Fire, has grown to 3,400 acres and has no containment.

Officials said the blaze was initially emitting embers that were starting spot fires within about 250 feet of homes and structures.
