Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 Is Designed Specifically For Always Connected Windows PCs

One of Qualcomm's big pushes with the Snapdragon 850, though, will be the growth of artificial intelligence and smart assistant technologies.

Last year, Qualcomm and Microsoft introduced Windows 10 to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile PC platform to create "always connected" laptops with Gigabit LTE connectivity.

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 850 "Mobile Compute Platform" during the Computex 2018 trade show taking place in Taiwan. The company also announced that its competitor-slash-customer Samsung would be the first manufacturing partner to offer a Windows 10 PC with the new chip as its beating heart. The Snapdragon 850, in contrast, is meant to be used for PCs first. You've got the same Kryo 385 CPU cores, 84-bit architecture, same RAM support, 10nm (2nd gen) process, same Adreno 630 GPU, same video codec and capture support, etc. Qualcomm did up the CPU speed to 2.96GHz, though.

A point of interest to note is the lowered licensing requirements prompted by the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem.

Serena Williams opens up about her battle with postpartum depression
The opening set went with serve and eventually to a tie-break in which Williams bounced back from 3-0 down to clinch it. Now it will be Görges's turn to see if she can capitalize on Williams's continuing search for top form.

Compared to the Snapdragon 835 laptops, the new chipset promises a 30% boost in performance and 20% better battery life.

Qualcomm revealed the platform at Computex yesterday. Furthermore, the chipset also supports LPDDR4X quad-channel memory, with high-resolution audio playback being enjoyed on wired as well as wireless audio headphones too, thanks to Aqstic and aptX audio. The chipset also supports Microsoft's Machine Learning SDK.

Windows 10 April 2018 Update brings support for HDR video, Hi-Fi Audio, 64-bit Edge browser and more to Snapdragon powered Windows 10 PCs. With this, applications can be compiled in a native Arm64 format, running without the need for expensive software emulation, providing a better experience for consumers. Lenovo also joined the fray a few months later.

The Snapdragon 850 is built with the "2nd Generation" of 10 nm and Qualcomm was not exhausted to mention that Intel is still on 14 nm and has troubles bringing 10 nm to the market.
