Rep. Sanford loses to strong Trump backer

Rep. Sanford loses to strong Trump backer

Responding to the primary threat, Sanford has aired television ads highlighting his support for Trump's policies.

The race showed GOP voters, who forgave Sanford's extramarital affair, would not forgive the Charleston Republican's criticism of President Trump, including 2017 comments that Trump's rhetoric was partly to blame for a shooting at a GOP baseball practice.

Virginia State Sen. Jennifer Wexton easily won a crowded primary for Virginia's 10th Congressional District.

But, Sanford also said, "never say never".

With almost 94 percent of precincts reporting, Arrington's vote count was at 50.7 percent. "I've supported the president 89 percent of the time, " Sanford said during a debate on Monday. "Sanford's performances in the past have been weak", Kondik said, "Very rarely do House members lose re-nomination and Sanford but a logical candidate given his opposition to Trump and his general weakness with the electorate".

The congressman, former governor and one-time presidential aspirant was trailing a little-known state lawmaker who slammed him for his repeated criticism of President Trump, the latest sign that the most unsafe thing to do in the modern GOP is dare to take on the president.

Regardless of how it came about, no ambitious Republican wants to be the next Sanford, Jeff Flake, or Bob Corker - three Republicans who are leaving Congress at the end of the year as a result of disagreements with Trump.

"Sanford's loss is not necessarily due to his problems with Trump, even if he claims it is because of him", said Adam Chamberlain, a Coastal Carolina University political science professor.

Ghost of Tsushima gameplay looks incredible in action
Due to its fantastic gameplay and wonderful mechanics, it seems the game will provide us with many thrills and excitement. Calling a first-party PlayStation game gorgeous is pretty much redundant at this point, but Spider-Man really is a looker.

Mark Sanford nurtured an independent streak, reportedly branding the president's imposition of steel and aluminum tariffs "an experiment with stupidity".

With 65 percent reporting, first-term state Rep. Katie Arrington is on the verge of unseating a S.C. political fixture for the past 25 years.

President Donald Trump is backing the opponent of U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford just hours before polls close in SC.

Election Commission spokesman Chris Whitmire said Tuesday afternoon the overall turnout is light as Republicans and Democrats select candidates for the fall elections. It has voted Democrat in the three elections since.

"I wouldn't say it made my day, and it's not what anybody would yearn for in the world of politics, but it is what it is", Sanford told a small group of reporters in the Capitol. The president called Sanford "nothing but trouble" and added "He is better off in Argentina". She is tough on crime and will continue our fight to lower taxes. Republican Governor Henry McMaster, an early supporter of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, did not win a majority and was forced into a June 26 runoff primary with a political novice, businessman John Warren.

"Furthermore, it could also be that primary voters liked Katie Arrington's approach, though I have no empirical evidence to back this up at this time".
