Russian Federation 2018: Suarez fires Uruguay into Round of 16

Russian Federation 2018: Suarez fires Uruguay into Round of 16

Luis Suarez booked Uruguay's place in the World Cup knockout rounds, marking his 100th worldwide appearance with the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia.

The result means hosts Russian Federation, who also won their two opening Group A games, will join Uruguay in the last 16, while pointless Egypt and Saudi Arabia make an early exit.

"The difference between this display and the first game was enormous, the change was obvious", said the Argentine, who took charge last November, after Saudi had secured a first World Cup berth since 2006.

The World Cup 2018 football tournament continues when Uruguay face Saudi Arabia in their second game of Group A stage round on Wednesday.

Muslera had a special occasion of his own, playing his 13th World Cup match to pull even atop Uruguay's all-time mark with former national team keeper Ladislao Mazurkiewicz - that coming in his 99th cap. But they were outmatched by the Uruguayan defense and were under regular threat from Suarez and Cavani.

Democrats oppose both measures as harsh. "It may be a compromise with the devil, but it is not a compromise with the Democrats". Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has set up a hotline for parents to call after they are released from custody.

Still, the Saudis would at least have walked off the field on Wednesday with their heads held high and they have one more chance for a final hurrah against the Egyptians in their final Group A encounter. However, Saudi Arabia bounced back with a much better effort than what we saw in its opener and made things very hard on the South American side.

"None of the games at the World Cup are easy to win", Suarez said.

Uruguay snuck by the Egyptians via a late set-piece goal in their opening match of the tournament and went back to the well for their first against the Asian side after 23 minutes.

The biggest issue for Saudi Arabia has been the lack of class up front as they have struggled to create chances at the offensive end of the pitch. This is the second consecutive victory of Uruguay. "I know Diego is really committed, he has scored three goals in three matches". Jose Gimenez scored the victor for Uruguay in the 89th minute. "I was thinking that Saudi would win by two goals, and Uruguay would score one", he said.

Saudi Arabia, who suffered a minor scare when an engine on their plane caught fire before landing on Rostov-on-Don on Monday, instead have not found the back of the net in their last four World Cup outings.
