Second Sheriff’s Deputy Dies Following Shooting In Kansas

A female deputy who was shot Friday as she and another deputy were transporting prisoners from a courthouse has died, officials in Kansas City, Kansas, said Saturday.

According to Fox News, 44-year-old Theresa King and 35-year-old Patrick Rohrer were shot, possibly with their own weapons, as they drove the suspect to court. He and Theresa "TK" King were overcome by the suspect inside a gated area, police said.

At around 12:20 a.m. Saturday, the second Deputy passed away at KU Medical Center.

The suspect, who has not been officially identified, was also shot multiple times and was taken to the hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition. Police spokesman Zac Blair said authorities will be reviewing surveillance video. Video from the scene shows the courthouse surrounded by yellow police tape, several police vehicles parked in the street and numerous uniformed law enforcement officers walking the grounds.

Kansas City police have fatally shot a woman who barricaded herself in a shed after she was seen outside with a sword.

Bailiff said the deputies were following protocol when the deadly altercation occurred.

Bailiff said the investigation was now being handled by the police department in Kansas City.

The year before, Wyandotte County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Wood was shot at a convenience store but survived.

'Our hearts break for our brothers and sisters at Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office as well as for the loved ones of the deputies shot today, one of whom has died. No other details were released about the suspect, including his condition.

Gov Jeff Colyer was briefed on the incident as he arrived to a congressional forum hosted by the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.

The Kansas City Star reports that the shooting happened on Thursday afternoon in the north of the city.

John Garcia said he was just leaving the courthouse when he heard gunshots, and he and others were quickly told to go back inside.
