Stormy's lawyer ends bid for role in Cohen case

In a setback for Donald Trump, a judge denied a request by lawyers for Michael Cohen, Trump's longtime personal attorney, in federal court on Wednesday for more time to review material seized in the FBI raid last month on Cohen's home, hotel room and office.

Hendon then blasted Avenatti's court filing stating that Egan Avenatti was not the law firm for Daniels' as "carefully constructed" and "misleading".

The June 15 deadline to review documents seized from Cohen was a month sooner than Cohen's lawyers had wanted.

"I don't know if we can make that", Ryan told Wood, who stuck to the deadline despite the objections from Cohen's team. One topic at issue is Cohen's payment of $130,000 to Daniels weeks before the 2016 presidential election in exchange for her silence about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump in 2006.

Ryan at one point seemed critical of what he called "a very unusual thing going on" between prosecutors and Avenatti, who claimed he had a good working relationship with the government lawyers and that he knew the lawyers and the Federal Bureau of Investigation had not leaked the audio. "It was a drive-by shooting of anyone named Michael Cohen", he said.

"Please take notice that the motion for admission pro hac vice filed by Michael J. Avenatti is hereby withdrawn without prejudice as unnecessary".

Avenatti's purported objective has been to represent Clifford as a formal, intervening party in Cohen's case, the entirety of which has very little to do with his client.

In response, Cohen's attorney said he was unaware of the release of any audio file, noting that if it had been released, they would be "everywhere" and that "if" the audio files existed, they would be "under lock and key at my law firm".

Justice Obstructed? Trump, Sessions & the Federal Bureau of Investigation
Justice Department officials had concluded the policy must be withdrawn and revised, a move that Mr. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) sympathizing with the president over his ongoing frustrations with Sessions.

"It's never a good idea to be recording conversations, period, especially if you are an attorney, especially if you're dealing with sensitive information", Avenatti said.

Cohen has asked Wood to deny Avenatti permission to appear before the federal court, saying he violated court rules by making what he characterized as false statements about Cohen in frequent news media appearances. The judge told him that if he is allowed to participate in the process, he would "not be permitted to use this court as a platform for anything" and said he could no longer declare that Cohen is guilty of potential charges.

But in her update Tuesday to the court, Jones noted that so far only 252 items have been flagged by Cohen's or Trump's attorneys as privileged.

Avenatti had sought to join the case but withdrew his motion after U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood warned that Avenatti would have to end his "publicity tour" if she granted him standing.

"We have people working all night, we have people sleeping on couches", Harris said, adding that one associate lawyer had even "developed a tremor in his hand". Avenatti's firm holds a 75 percent stake in Eagan-Avenatti while Michael Eagan holds a 25 percent stake in said firm, according to documents obtained by Finnegan.

"When you get into it, you realize how much time it takes", said Alan Futerfas, who represents the Trump Organization, referring to Cohen's team's work.

Cohen's attorneys have earlier expressed their desire for Avenatti to not be admitted into the case, which he is seeking to do on Daniels' behalf.

Upon leaving the courthouse in lower Manhattan, Cohen - who also has the Fox TV star Sean Hannity as a client - did not reply to a shouted question about whether he meant to cooperate with prosecutors.
