Trump departs Canada for Singapore’s meeting with North Korean leader

There are worries from some quarters about Kim's intentions and his willingness to actually follow through on any commitment he might make in Singapore.

"The president on Saturday said that he has a "clear objective" heading into the Singapore summit, but that 'it's going to be something that will always be spur of the moment" because Kim has "never been tested". Marco Rubio, R-Fla.

"I think within the first minute, I'll know", Trump said of the scheduled Tuesday meeting in Singapore.

In April, North Korean security staff meticulously wiped down with disinfectant the chair Kim Jong Un would be sitting in while signing the visitor's book at the Peace House within the border village of Panmunjom in April. He's got an opportunity, if you look into history, very few people have ever had.

"Summits are when leaders size each other up, for better or for worse", writes Robert Carlin, a frequent visitor to North Korea, both as a USA official and outside analyst. "As a deal person, that is important".

Some 100 fans flocked to a shopping mall Saturday for $10 selfies with Trump and Kim lookalikes.

Last year it carried out by far its most powerful nuclear test to date and launched missiles capable of reaching the U.S. mainland, sending tensions soaring to a level unseen in years as a newly-elected Trump traded threats of war and colorful personal insults with Kim, with Trump dubbed a "dotard" and Kim "Little Rocket Man". "I think that Chairman Kim Jong Un is prepared to do that as well", he said. "It's about attitude", Trump said of the summit before meeting Thursday with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Tactical change helps Halep reach French Open semis
As in NY nine months ago, it was a mistake-riddled performance from Keys, who committed 41 unforced errors to Stephens' 11. Muguruza , victor two years ago, will face either world number one Simona Halep or Angelique Kerber in the semi-finals.

US singled out by G7 allies over steel and aluminium tariffs
That meeting, which will be hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau , will be Trump's first visit to Canada as president. In addition to Canada and the USA , the other G7 countries are Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Germany.

Trump can probably pardon himself, but has no plan to -Giuliani
Can a president pardon himself? Lawyers for Trump and a spokesman for the special counsel declined to comment to ABC News. Mueller will have to weigh their arguments while deciding whether to press ahead with a historic grand jury subpoena.

"But It depends on what they're talking about it and it depends on their willingness to take time and work around the periphery and ultimately to get to the really hard cards in the pack; human rights and nuclear weapons". Trump said the talks would establish dialogue between the two nations, with an ultimate goal of North Korea's denuclearization. I'd like to accomplish more than that, but at a minimum we'll have met each other, seen each other.

Pompeo, who will travel on to meetings with officials in South Korea and China after the summit in Singapore, also sought to assuage concerns in those countries that the Trump administration is moving toward the summit without taking into account the views from Seoul, Beijing and Tokyo.

We know this much about Kim Jong Un's preparation for Tuesday's summit: He seemed to have enough time to visit a new seafood restaurant in Pyongyang.

Congress could either help give the negotiated agreement more heft by ratifying it, or completely undermine the deal for either political or substantive reasons, Town said. So that is two successes for the United States - one large and one small.

On Thursday, Singapore's government said it would temporarily lift United Nations -related sanctions it had imposed against trade with North Korea from Saturday to help facilitate preparations for the unprecedented summit.

"We think North Korea will be a tremendous place in a very short period of time", he said. The level of concern is higher, though, in Japan, another US treaty ally in Asia with much at stake. This fraught dividing line is also where a desperate North Korean soldier was shot five times a year ago as he made a mad dash on foot away from his former comrades in a successful bid to defect to the South.
