U.S. lawmakers, Melania Trump call for end to migrant family separations

Some Trump administration officials have admitted the policy is aimed at deterring would-be undocumented immigrants or asylum seekers from attempting to cross into the USA out of fear that they will be separated from their children.

"Mrs Trump hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform", her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told CNN.

An anti-immigration hardliner, Miller has pushed in recent months for a tough "zero tolerance" policy and an end to the current "catch and release" rules, under which immigrants who enter the country illegally are released from detention by USA authorities while their cases are processed.

Donald Trump has falsely blamed Democrats for the situation, saying that he was simply enforcing a law that they had written. "She didn't have her mother, and none of us can fix that".

In a tweet Saturday morning, the president bashed Democrats for obstructing a GOP immigration bill that would stop the separation of families on the border, provide protection for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, and provide funding for a border wall. She said "the United States government "should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso".

Bannon departed from the White House after a series of internal clashes and returned to his former perch at Breitbart News - only to resign after blowback from his support of controversial Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore in an Alabama special election.

Late Sunday, Department of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, who has boldly threatened to quit but not followed through, attempted a different strategy from her superiors: She pretended the policy she (supposedly) dislikes so much doesn't exist at all.

"Trump claims Democrats are to blame for families' being broken up", said one of the Democrats, Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. of New Jersey. Collins called that bill too broad and said she supports bipartisan immigration legislation proposed in February that ultimately failed. A 2008 anti-trafficking statute - signed into law by a Republican president, George W. Bush - also requires that certain unaccompanied alien minors be transferred out of immigration detention in 72 hours. Because the law severely limits how long the feds can detain the children, immigration officials on the ground then have no choice but to break up the families. This is why we need more Republicans elected in November. "So if they don't like that law, they should change it", Conway explains.

Chinese State Media Suggests President Trump Is a 'Fool'
The Chinese announcement is the latest volley in a trade dispute between China and the US that has been escalating for months. In return, China said it will impose $3 billion worth of tariffs between 15 to 25 percent on 128 American goods.

Griezmann snubs Barca to stay at Atletico
The Frenchman revealed the snub to Barca in a freaky documentary entitled'The Decision' aired on a pay-to-view channel in Spain . The Catalan giants confirmed in May that were in talks with Atletico for a potential move for the 27-year-old.

Korean-Americans await historic meeting between Trump, Kim
Earlier, Trump patted Kim on the back and placed his hand on the North Korean's shoulder as they walked into their meeting. The official cautioned, however, that the schedule could always change if meeting goes well and there is more to discuss.

"If a parent left a child in a cage with no supervision with other five-year-olds, they'd be held accountable". "I will tell you that nobody likes this policy".

Given the relatively recent nature of the zero-tolerance policy and time it takes illegal immigrants from Central America to make their way north, the administration should start to see results - or evidence of failure - over the next several weeks.

President Donald Trump will meet House Republicans on Wednesday NZT to discuss the issue.

Immigration on the southwest border has remained high since the zero-tolerance policies took effect.

"Compromising on the rule of law to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants is the wrong path to take", she said of the House plan.

The letter cites multiple instances where families seeking asylum were separated, despite the administration's assurances that wasn't the case.

The situation now is "inhumane" and "un-American", he said.
