After Waffling On Kavanaugh, Rand Paul Predictably Says He'll Support Nominee

Kavanaugh, who has already met with 39 Republican senators, held a two-hour meeting with Manchin on Monday.

Manchin wrote on Twitter that it had been a productive meeting but he was undecided.

"After meeting Judge Kavanaugh and reviewing his record, I have chose to support his nomination", Paul declared.

Senate Republicans are pledging a swift confirmation process that would elevate Kavanaugh, now a judge on the federal appeals court in Washington, before the Supreme Court's new term convenes October 1.

Separately, Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein has written the National Archives to complain about access to documents related to the Kavanaugh nomination. The letter also asks for any documents that were "written by, edited by, prepared in whole or part by, under the supervision of, or at the direction of" Kavanaugh, and any record that refers to him by name, his initials or his title. Kavanaugh has been serving as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 2006 and previously served as staff secretary to Bush from 2003 to 2006.

Americans are divided on how they'd like the Senate to handle Kavanaugh's nomination, with 30 percent saying their senators should vote to confirm, 29 percent that their senators should oppose him, and the plurality ― 41 percent ― that they're not sure. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of ME, who have bucked the Republican Party on previous issues dealing with women's reproductive rights.

While Kavanaugh was staff secretary, Bush made a range of controversial decisions, including signing into law a partial-birth abortion ban and backing a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
