Divers enter cave to bring out last trapped group

The rescue effort, headed by the Royal Thai Navy's SEAL unit, have evacuated eight of the 12 boys, 11- to 16-year-old members of a Thai soccer team.

Four more boys and their coach remain trapped inside the Tham Luang Nang Non cave complex.

The rescue mission began on Sunday morning, almost a week since the 12 boys, aged 11 to 16, and their coach had been discovered on an embankment 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) inside the winding tunnels.

The emergence of the second batch of four boys on Monday evening was greeted with a simple "Hooyah" by the SEAL team on their Facebook page, an exclamation that lit up Thai social media, while positive medical reports on the rescued group further fuelled the sense of joy. They'll also be bringing back 3 Navy SEALS and a medic who have been in the cave with the team since the first day of the rescue efforts.

Thai army soldiers return from Tham Luang cave on day three of the rescue operation.

The plight of the boys and their coach has drawn global attention, with divers, engineers and medics among others flying in from around the world to assist.

Dr Jesada said that when the first four arrived they went through all the necessary health checks including blood tests, lung X-rays, heart, eye and mental tests.

"All five will be brought out at the same time today", said the head of the rescue mission, Narongsak Osottanakornon, on Tuesday.

Elite divers hauled 4 more young footballers out of a flooded Thai cave on Monday, July 9, authorities said, bringing to 8 the number saved in a stunning rescue mission but still leaving 5 others trapped.

Because of the heavy rains, which eventually eased in the afternoon, Narongsak said the decision had been taken to "not to waste time ... for the third planned mission". "But we will have a psychiatrist to evaluate them".

Twelve children and one adult were trapped in underground caves in northern Thailand on June 23rd, and a rescue mission is still taking place to bring the victims home.

The boys rescued so far are in good overall health despite spending two weeks in the dank cave system, Jesada Chokedamrongsuk, permanent secretary of the ministry of public health, told a news conference in Chiang Rai.

Musk has offered a "kid-sized" submarine, named Wild Boar after the kids' soccer team, to help in the rescue operation. Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha was scheduled to make a second visit to the scene late on Monday and the president of soccer's governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino, today invited the boys to the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday if they make it out of the cave in time.

The four boys rescued on Sunday were each accompanied by two divers as they were gradually extracted from the cave.

Musk said it was light enough to be carried by two divers, robust, and small enough to get through narrow gaps.

"If Phra Pirun helps us, we might be able to do it very quickly", Narongsak said, again invoking the god of rain, who is widely revered in Thailand.
