Imran Khan's PTI considering inviting Modi for his oath-taking ceremony

Khan's party is attempting to consolidate a stronger than expected showing during last week's election, which handed victory to the 65-year-old ex-cricket captain turned anti-corruption crusader. He'll need the Pakistan Peoples' Party's help. The losing parties typically cry foul, hold their nose and then step into parliament.

It did. In fact, it now seems the whole PML-N team has been bowled out and Khan is the man of the match, as the daily Nation's banner headline declared the day after the election.

Khan, during a speech declaring victory on Thursday, offered to investigate opposition allegations of vote-rigging and said he wanted to "unite" the country under his leadership. Pakistan, a nuclear power and the world's sixth-most populous country, continues to struggle with violent extremism.

Pakistan's National Assembly comprises a total of 342 members, of which 272 are directly elected.

The Allahu Akbar Tehreek party of Hafiz Saeed, who is accused of masterminding the 2008 attacks that killed 166 people in the Indian city of Mumbai, did not win a single seat.

Other than the parties, 13 independent candidates also won their seats.
