Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of CT, who is on the Senate Judiciary Committee that holds hearings on Supreme Court nominees, responded on "This Week" that Trump has "outsourced" his decision to the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation, which helped compile a list of 25 potential nominees from which the president has said he would make his selection. Collins would agree that those were very good reversals. The 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide has been a hot-button issue ever since it was handed down, with the Right to Life movement working to overturn it. "There are always issues [that the] executive branch and president deal with on a regular basis that are extraordinarily important and controversial, and we don't hold up Supreme Court nominations or confirmations for those". One of these will have to get to the Supreme Court to enable a majority to overturn Roe.

Stacey Dash landed a major role in an upcoming movie profiling the epic Roe v. Wade case. Elective abortion through the second trimester was legal in four states, and abortion in cases of rape or medical necessity was legal in thirteen others. Roberts expressed concern about the "onslaught on women's access to abortion" that could occur were a conservative justice to take Kennedy's place. In the end, the fight over Supreme Court nominees has not given either side what they really wanted - but after thirty years, neither side is ready to give up the battle.

Roughly a dozen other states appear unlikely to enact tougher abortion laws, and some of those, such as California and Maryland, have laws explicitly protecting the right to access abortion.

The Constitution says absolutely nothing about abortion - and the framers never even considered making it a constitutional right to abort unborn babies at almost any point in a pregnancy.

The final resolution retained much of the original wording, despite American efforts. Mothers breastfeeding their children.

Another dozen or so states still have pre-Roe abortion bans on the books. In 1981, she testified before Congress in support of a bill that, if passed, would have allowed states to prosecute abortion as murder, The New York Times reports.

Most Republicans want to put the Supreme Court out of reach of the left for a generation or more. As long as these judicial nominees' skepticism about Roe v. Wade was not too overt, they were unlikely to encounter much opposition from the GOP's pro-choice wing - or even from pro-choice Democrats. It's about what the Supreme Court in Planned Parenthood v. Casey explained is the "promise of the Constitution that there is a realm of personal liberty which the government may not enter".

After an initial burst of enthusiasm about the court opening, Republican politicians have characterized any questions about Roe's fate as scaremongering by Democrats. Leo singled out Barrett and Kavanaugh as having "a lot of name recognition among supporters of the president, and I think that ultimately when people like them are nominated you'll see a lot of folks line up".
