Mesut Ozil to have 'big season', predicts Unai Emery

The 29-year-old cited "racism and disrespect" as a key reason behind his decision to end his global football career having won the World Cup in 2014.

Ozil, took to his social media accounts, to put across his decision on Sunday.

The midfielder cited "racism and disrespect" as reasons for his decision to quit worldwide football which the German Football Association "emphatically rejected".

Ozil quit the Germany national team this week following the fallout of his pre-World Cup meeting with President Erdogan of Turkey.

"Everybody at the club is thinking like me to help him and to feel (good) here and express his quality with us".

"I am very happy with him, every player is looking together and Mesut has the respect of every player here".

"He feels here with us that he can work every day, and it is good for us that he made a decision to come here and work with us before our two matches".

Emery says he has not yet spoken to Ozil about his decision, which was explained across several lengthy statements on Twitter.

The German Football Association said it "emphatically rejected" Ozil's accusations of racism.

Asked whether Ozil was mentally prepared for the season, Spaniard Emery said: "I am sure he is going to have a big season with us".

He has the support from the team and we hope by the start of the season he will be fit and ready to perform for us'.
