This century's longest total lunar eclipse is happening Friday

The longest lunar eclipse of the century is coming on July 27, so there's a few things you should know before the celestial event! Noah Petro, a scientist from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center said, Image source " The eclipse won't be visible from North America.

According to the Astronomical Society of Southern Africa (Assa)‚ it will be the longest lunar eclipse this century - and will last from 8.24pm to just after midnight.

During the eclipse, the moon will pass through Earth's darkest shadow and take on a red sheen, with the phenomenon being described as the "blood moon".

NASA said the total lunar eclipse will last almost two hours Friday night, turning the moon a reddish orange color. At that time, Earth blocks most of the sunlight that would usually hit the moon, so that much of the moon is in Earth's shadow.

According to popular American evangelical pastor John Hagee, the blood moons are historically linked with a time period "that begins with a tragedy and ends with a triumph" for the Jewish people.

And you don't have to worry about having a telescope to get a good view, with astronomers saying that there will be a very good view without the need for special equipment. NASA said that will be a "super moon" with the totality visible from North America. Residents in most of the world will be able to see at least a partial eclipse.

Twelve new moons orbiting Jupiter - one may collide with the others
The researchers think these moons are also fragmented remnants of larger moons broken apart after colliding with another body. This oddball is a bit more distant than its prograde brothers, and it takes about a year and a half to orbit Jupiter.

Dozens of transfer cases to carry the American remains have been brought to the southern side of the border in recent weeks. Mr Trump also said he discussed North Korea with Russian President Vladimir Putin at their summit in Helsinki on Monday.

As this happens, some part of the Moon will not be visible to stargazers, resulting in a partial lunar eclipse.

Residents in Australia will be able to see the lunar eclipse as the moon sets, while those in eastern Brazil and western Europe can see it as the moon is rising. That color is where the term "blood moon" comes from.

The closest this lunar eclipse will come to happening to the contiguous United States will be the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico!

The next total eclipse of the sun visible in the US will occur on April 8, 2024.

Dr Gregory Brown, of the Royal Observatory Greenwich, said: "We miss a section of the eclipse due to the moon being below our horizon when it starts". It was the first time in 152 years, a supermoon, a blue moon and a blood moon coincided.
