North Korea accused the United States on Thursday of pushing for worldwide sanctions despite goodwill moves by Pyongyang and said progress on denuclearization promises could not be expected if Washington continues to follow an "outdated acting script".

North Korea's foreign ministry said on Thursday it had stopped missile and nuclear tests and dismantled "the nuclear test ground", yet the United States still insisted on "denuclearisation first". The letter was handed to North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho during the weekend.

The fresh anger out of Pyongyang comes as top diplomats from the USA have strongly criticised the North's commitment to denuclearisation.

The White House and State Department did not immediately return requests for comment.

Still, North Korea said it remains steadfast in its commitment to building trust and implementing in good faith the joint statement step by step.

The North noted that they returned remains of USA soldiers who fought in the Korean War to the US last week.

The latest statement by the North's foreign ministry also accused USA officials of "going against the intention of President Trump" by "making baseless allegations against us and making desperate attempts at intensifying the worldwide sanctions and pressure".

The rival Koreas plan to hold high-level talks on Monday to prepare for a third summit between their leaders, as Pyongyang called on the United States to reciprocate its "goodwill measures" by easing sanctions and stopping demands that the North denuclearize first.

One major hurdle to the proposal is that North Korea has not even disclosed how many nuclear bombs it actually has.

"North Korea's strategic policy is to deepen relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and confront unilateralism", he said.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri traveled this week to Iran, where President Hassan Rouhani told him the United States can not be trusted after the Trump administration reneged on a 2015 deal to lift sanctions in return for curbs on Iran's own nuclear program.

Asked about the possibility of additional meetings, Bolton said Trump in a recent letter to Kim proposed sending Pompeo back to North Korea, and that Trump was ready to meet with Kim any time.
