Kerala is facing severe flooding due to torrential rainfall under Southwest Monsoon.

Over 15,600 people have been evacuated from the affected areas and around 500 relief camps have been set up.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy discussed the situation in Kerala with Vijayan and has allocated Rs 10 crore for disaster management, Manorama Online reported.The Edappadi K Palaniswami-led Tamil Nadu government also agreed to release 75,000 cusecs of water from Kabini reservoir in Mysuru district, to tackle flash floods caused by excessive backwaters in Kerala.

Three additional diving teams have also been dispatched to Aluva in coordination with the deputy collector for utilisation by the district collector in affected areas to augment the rescue, the release said.

Though the ministers were scheduled to stop at Idukki, bad weather conditions at the landing area in Kattapana forced them to travel to Wayanad, the CM said in a Facebook post. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), which maintains the Idukki dam, issued the red alert saying the shutters of the reservoir would be opened at 6 am tomorrow and asked people living downstream to be "extremely vigilant".

"There is a possibility of water level increasing in Kuttanad in the district in the event of the Kakki reservoir lifting shutters". Around 1,800 families on the river banks were shifted to relief camps in Idukki, MM Mani, Minister for Power said. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Arabian sea. Gates of 24 dams in the state have been opened so far due to rising water level.

Authorities on Friday expected that parts of Ernakulam and Thrissur districts would be submerged following the opening of all five floodgates.

According to CIAL Managing Director VJ Kurien, flight operations are normal and flood water have not affected the airport operations.
