Sunil Gavaskar will not be attending Imran Khan’s oath-taking ceremony

Pakistan went to polls on July 25 and Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the single largest party with 116 seats.

The election of the Prime Minister will be held after election of the new Speaker who will supervise the election of the premier.

Party sources said the cabinet list has not been finalised but there is general consensus that Shah Mahmood Qureshi will be the new foreign minister and Pervez Khattak as interior minister.

Imran, widely touted to be the country's next prime minister, was sworn in as MNA during the inaugural session of the 15th National Assembly today, which marked the third consecutive democratic transfer of power in the country.

Khan has also been getting facilitation meetings and congratulatory appreciations from representatives of various countries including India.

Khan brings charisma and global name recognition, but running the country will take considerable statecraft from his relatively inexperienced party.

The PTI, however, has the support of some small parties.

The new government faces a strong opposition as the PML-N has a final tally of 82 seats, followed by the PPP with 53 and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) 15 seats.

As far as provincial Assemblies are concerned, PTI is leading in Punjab with 179 seats in the house of 371 but it has not so far announced its chief ministerial candidate.
