Twitch to End Ad-Free Viewing With Twitch Prime

Twitch to End Ad-Free Viewing With Twitch Prime

Other Twitch Prime benefits will not be changing.

As of September 14, Twitch users who sign up to Twitch Prime will no longer able to watch streams without advertisements.

"Advertising is an important source of support for the creators who make Twitch possible", Twitch wrote in a statement. By eliminating this Twitch Prime perk, the company says it will "strengthen and expand that advertising opportunity" for its creators.

That being said, ad-free viewing will still be available on Twitch via its subscription service Twitch Turbo. However, Twitch is pulling back on the benefits that you have gotten with Twitch Prime, most notable will be the fact that "universal ad-free viewing will no longer be part of Twitch Prime for new members, starting on September 14". In addition to this already disappointing announcement, it was also confirmed that Twitch Prime services will see a change as well.

When we launched Twitch Prime we were determined to give streamers and their viewers the best value in gaming. Like Amazon's movie and TV streaming support and two-day delivery, the advantages of Twitch Prime are wrapped up over the same $120 annual subscription.

Of those, only five of the products were discovered to have glyphosate, and at levels lower than the organization's benchmark. The EPA has researched this issue and has set rules that we follow as do farmers who grow crops including wheat and oats.

However, losing the 20 percent discount on pre-orders is not all that Prime members are losing this year.

And it's not just the Prime pre-order discounts that are disappearing either. Ad-free viewing is the only perk besides the monthly free sub that I care about.

From August 28th, customers will instead receive store credit when pre-ordering games through the online retailer. But, it also allows Twitch to gain more advertisers by guaranteeing that their ads will be seen by a larger audience. That all changes starting September 14th (unless you're now on an annual subscription, in which case, this begins once your subscription renews).

The popular tie-in model between Twitch and Amazon Prime will soon stop blocking ads for subscribers.

Capitalism strikes again as Amazon phases out its preorder discount program for Prime members and looks to replace it with a $10 credit program.
