There are no medications to treat or vaccines to prevent West Nile virus infection.

According to WHO, WNV is maintained in nature in a cycle involving transmission between birds and mosquitoes.

The health department, with the help of Kozhikode corporation authorities, has already launched preventive measures including fogging and spraying to eliminate mosquitoes responsible for transmitting the virus into human beings. However, health officials said some severe cases of the virus can also lead to meningitis, encephalitis, paralysis and even death.
