Alex Cora Calls Out Donald Trump for Comments About Puerto Rico

The death toll in Puerto Rico has steadily climbed in the months after the storms passed - and was put at almost 3,000 last month by an analysis from George Washington University and the University of Puerto Rico.

The Republican president suggested the hurricane death toll was artificially boosted by adding those who had passed away from natural causes such as old age.

Citing the relief efforts after Hurricane Maria, President Donald Trump says the federal government is ready for Hurricane Florence.

Trump made the comments Thursday on Twitter as Hurricane Florence bears down on the Carolinas.

Rep. Ileana Ros Lehtinen: The Florida Republican had one of the harshest takes.

Congressman Luis Gutierrez, a Democrat, said the president was "delusional". "How can you be so self-centered and try to distort the truth so much?"

In a statement, Representative Bennie Thompson of MS, the ranking Democrat on the Homeland Security Committee, called on Trump to "resign at once".

Ahead of Florence striking the United States east coast, Mr Trump spoke with political leaders in the Carolinas and offered "whatever is needed", Sarah Sanders, the White House spokesman, said.

Meteorologists expect Hurricane Florence to be a Category 3 or a Category 4 storm when she makes landfall in North Carolina. AccuWeather meteorologist Brett Rossi said the ground in North and SC and Virginia is already saturated from recent rains.

With the win, Djokovic has now tied Pete Sampras for third on the all-time Grand Slams list. I had my corner, as well. "But also I think we are proud to be close to these legends".

Hurricane Florence prompts mandatory evacuations as it nears Category 5 strength
Many newcomers have moved to the coast in the almost 19 years since the last strong hurricane - Floyd - threatened the area. Olivia is expected to move west through Monday before turning west-southwest late Monday and early Tuesday local time.

"Trump's denial of the official death toll from Hurricane Maria is absurd and gross", wrote conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, on his Twitter account, in response to the Trump denials.

Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz: "The world has seen, and the majority of the American people have seen, how neglectful he was towards the people of Puerto Rico".

The White House, while describing any death from the hurricane as "a horror", sought to defend Trump's handling of the disaster, saying he had "directed the entire administration to provide unprecedented support to Puerto Rico". "It was devastating. It was a terrible storm".

Another study carried out by Harvard University and published in May estimated the death toll from the hurricane and its aftermath could have been higher than 4,600.

"We stand by the science underlying our study", the statement said. We collected the data from the official sources. "We didn't receive any pressure from anybody to go this way or that way". We wouldn't do it.

That number was produced by public health experts at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in a report commissioned by the USA territory's governor, Ricardo Rossello. Trump argued without evidence that the number was wrong and falsely called it a plot by Democrats to make him "look as bad as possible".

While the storm was directly and immediately responsible for a smaller number of deaths, an independent report placed the number of deaths blamed on the hurricane at 3,000.

"That's comparing him to Hitler, someone who gasses his own people that starve their people, the orders for thousands of their own people to die", Huntsman responses.
