Brett Kavanaugh explains Parkland encounter, baseball ticket bills

Senators Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska are thought to be two Republicans who have a chance of voting against the confirmation of SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Numerous protesters had interrupted the hearings and Kavanaugh said he didn't know who Guttenberg was as he approached him.

That doesn't sound like someone who is impressed by the Democrats' disgusting antics.

Booker is being criticized by his GOP colleagues and outside groups for releasing the documents, which the Judiciary Committee is holding back on a confidential basis that makes them accessible only to senators.

Kavanaugh also explained an occasion during the hearings last week when he turned away Fred Guttenberg, whose 14-year-old daughter was among the 17 slain in a February 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. "Mr. Guttenberg has suffered an incalculable loss". "If I vote against him, the money is refunded to donors".

A number of Collins' Republican colleagues in the Senate stepped up to her defense on Wednesday, including Republican Sens. The Judiciary Committee voted 11 to 10 on Thursday to hold the vote at 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 20, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is expected to set full Senate votes on Kavanaugh's confirmation for the final week of September.

Recent days have seen a flurry of Democrats formally announcing their opposition to Kavanaugh, from Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire to Virginia's Mark Warner.

In party-line votes, the Republicans rejected motions by Democratic senators seeking access to documents yet to be made public relating to Kavanaugh's service in the White House under Republican President George W. Bush more than a decade ago.

In a letter to the committee chairman, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., on Wednesday night released a new batch of committee confidential documents about Kavanaugh, repeating a tactic that could prompt a review from the Senate Ethics Committee.

After a week of histrionics during Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings, Collins, a crucial swing vote in the Senate, is thought to be among the only people with the power to stop the nominee's near-certain confirmation to the nation's highest court.

Under questioning last week, Kavanaugh clarified that while he may have attended meetings and hearing prep sessions, he wasn't the primary White House official assigned to Pryor.

In a second voice mail, the caller calls Collins "a feckless, feckless, feckless woman standing there letting Trump and his appointees steal the right to choose what women do with their bodies". It was one of several hot-button topics on which he declined to comment because he said he did not want to compromise his judicial independence on a case that could come before him in court. "They're talking about whether or not you can have health care, pre-existing conditions-these are things that can lead people to die".

Here are five USA senators who could either make or break Kavanaugh's nomination.
