It then sends you a notification that you can use to make a 911 call or dismiss it.

Why is Fall Detection turned off by default?

In addition to this, several YouTube channels over the weekend posted videos testing the Fall Detector and how hard a fall has to be to trigger it.

Apple officially introduced its 2018 line-up of iPhones and and Apple Watch at an event in California last week.

That said, so far many people have reported the Apple Watch 4 to be capable of identifying real falls from pretend ones.

It would be interesting to know whether reviewers realized fall detection was disabled before testing it with Series 4.

Apple may have a good reason to keep it that way.

In India, one would have to shell out Rs 12,075 a month, as zero-cost EMI, for a period of one year to own the 512GB variant of iPhone "XS Max" - the most expensive iPhone released this month - that would cost Rs 1,44,900.

Apple is noting that if you do intense physical activity, you will have a higher chance of triggering a false positive Fall Detection warning. But recent set of reports indicate the detector doesn't work as expected and that it is switched off by default for most of the users. Here's how to do it.

As found in an Apple Support page by one of the Reddit users, it has been clearly mentioned that the fall detector needs to be manually enabled.

When a user falls and doesn't move for a minute, the Apple Watch Series 4 automatically a loud alarm after a 15-second countdown, in a move to get help from the surroundings in addition to contacting the user's contacts listed for emergency purposes. You can tell Apple Watch you fell but you're okay, or you can tell it you didn't fall at all.

However, if for some reason you can not respond to your Apple Watch, and you're immobile for about a minute, it will begin a 15-second countdown while vibrating and sounding a progressively louder alarm. The feature can detect both the front-facing falls and backward-facing slips. If you want to know more about the feature, including how to turn it on, read on.

The Apple Watch Series 4's fall detection isn't flawless, as some daring (if not crazy) YouTubers have found out.

Apple's algorithms base the alert on impact. But on harder surfaces it worked fine.

The iFixit team has managed to get its hands on the Apple Watch Series 4 and posted a detailed teardown of the wearable.

The Apple Watch 4 is actually slimmer than its predecessor by 0.7 mm. It will prove useful to people anxious about their heart health. Numerous other details are different; for example, the screen of the new Watch has slightly more rounded corners, and the taptic engine is a big longer but also thinner. There's also a 64-bit, dual-core S4 processor inside the machine, which is up to twice as fast compared to the previous S3. The GPS + Cellular model is going to cost you $499.
